The Utility Emergency Services Fund has provided grants to households in need of assistance with their utility bills since 1983. The grants are made to eliminate the client's arrearage and provide a new beginning of self-reliance. When available, additional services including energy efficiency counseling and budget assistance is provided.
Our Intake Centers located throughout Philadelphia will assist customers to complete the application for assistance. UESF will provide assistance for utility bills in shut off status or already terminated. All grants must be applied to the utility account and reach a zero balance. If the bill is in excess of the grant, the applicant is responsible for the balance at the time of making the request for assistance.
Since its inception, UESF has helped residents of Philadelphia with over $60 million in emergency financial assistance. As an independent, not for profit organization, UESF prides itself on being able to assist those households that have no other place to turn in times of need. By providing emergency assistance, households get the chance to start again. Second chances are infrequent and sometimes critical for survival.
