Quick Facts
UESF is a private, non-profit corporation created in 1983 to help resolve the devastating effects of high utility costs upon low income families. For the past 26 years, UESF has provided over $61 million of utility assistance to over 135 million families, assisting these families to achieve new starts. Every dollar we provide is matched by PECO, the Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW), or the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD).
In addition to financial assistance, UESF provides access for low income families to a vast array of other energy, energy related, and other assistance through its network of UESF Intake Sites situated within full service community based organizations located throughout the City. We are year round and we are the last resort, especially when the federally-funded LIHEAP and Crisis programs are not operating, or close prematurely.
Over the recent past, we have been able to double the number of families we serve, from approximately 3,400 in FY 2007 to over 7,000 projected for FY 2009.
